The trap · film summaries live in the present

陷阱・電影摘要活在現在式

English writes about what happens inside a story in the present tense, even for a film made forty years ago. Chinese makes no such distinction, and neither does common sense, so students write the whole summary in the past. Say the rule once, then hold them to it.
英文描述「故事裡發生的事」用現在式，就算那部片是四十年前拍的。中文沒有這個區分，直覺上也想不到，所以學生會整篇寫成過去式。把規則講一次，然後堅持執行。

Dom's homework is a plot summary. Give them the shape or they will retell the entire film. Five sentences, present tense, no ending spoiler unless it is needed to make sense.
Dom 的作業是劇情摘要。不給骨架，他們會把整部片重講一遍。五句話、現在式，除非不講結局會看不懂，否則不要爆雷。

Prep · 備課 No preparation needed. The vocabulary this week is the student's own, so what follows is the toolkit for writing the summary Dom sets. One rule decides the whole homework: film summaries are written in the present tense, and almost every student will write it in the past.
不必備課。這週的字彙由學生自己選，所以下面給的是寫 Dom 那份摘要的工具。有一條規則決定整份作業的成敗：電影摘要用現在式寫，而幾乎每個學生都會寫成過去式。
