The trap · the little words Chinese does not have

陷阱・中文沒有的那些小字

Chinese has no articles, so students either drop them or sprinkle them randomly. Three rules cover almost everything this week needs. Put them on the board and point at them every time someone slips.
中文沒有冠詞，所以學生不是漏掉就是亂灑。三條規則幾乎涵蓋這週會用到的全部。寫上白板，每次有人出錯就指一下。

① 單數可數名詞前面一定要有東西：a / an / the / my / this

② 第一次提到用 a，再提到用 the：I met a boy. The boy was crying.
③ 形容詞單獨當述語，不要加 a：✓ He is reliable.　✗ He is a reliable.

用行為代替形容詞

Dom's CEFR line asks B1 students for evidence, and this is the exercise that gets it. Give the adjective, students supply a one-sentence action that proves it — without using the adjective itself.
Dom 的 CEFR 欄要求 B1 學生給出證據，這個練習就是在要證據。老師給形容詞，學生用一句行為證明它——而且不能用到那個形容詞。

Rule: if the adjective appears in your sentence, it does not count.

Character Casting · the sheet

Dom's activity. Each team invents one character and fills this card, then 'casts' them — which actor, and why. The why is where the adjectives have to work.

One adjective, one piece of evidence. Articles must be correct — that is what is being checked.
一個形容詞，一個證據。冠詞要對——這才是真正在檢查的東西。

Prep · 備課 No preparation needed. Describing people is where Chinese-speaking students meet the article wall: Chinese has no a, an or the at all, and this week needs them in almost every sentence. 'He is a reliable friend' — the little word is the hard part, not the adjective.
不必備課。描述人物是中文母語學生撞上冠詞高牆的地方：中文完全沒有 a、an、the，而這週幾乎每一句都需要它們。He is a reliable friend——難的是那個小字，不是形容詞。
