Freeze Frame · five backgrounds

定格・五個背景

For Dom's activity. Read the background, students supply the interruption. The background stays in was/were + -ing; the interruption jumps to past simple. Worked example first.
搭配 Dom 的活動。老師唸背景，學生補上打斷。背景維持 was/were + -ing，打斷跳到過去簡單式。先看示範。

The trap · one Chinese word, two English ones

陷阱・中文一個詞，英文兩個

Chinese uses 的時候 for both. English splits it: while for the long action, when for the short one. If both actions are long, while works for both. If both are short, use when.
中文兩種情況都用「的時候」。英文分家了：while 給長動作，when 給短動作。兩個都長，兩個都用 while；兩個都短，用 when。

我在洗澡的時候電話響了。 ✓ I was taking a shower when the phone rang.　(長 → when 接短)
我在洗澡的時候我弟在唱歌。 ✓ While I was taking a shower, my brother was singing.　(兩個都長)

Dom's Halloween week. Spooky but gentle — the sillier the interruption, the better the grammar sticks.

Prep · 備課 No preparation needed. The whole week hangs on one contrast: the long action in the background (was doing) and the short action that cuts across it (did). Draw a long line on the board and a short arrow through it — that drawing is the grammar.
不必備課。整週只靠一組對比：背景那個長動作（was doing），和橫切過去的短動作（did）。在白板上畫一條長線，再畫一支箭穿過去——那張圖就是文法。
