The Sentence Builder · a worked ladder

For the 35–50 min activity. Show this ladder first so students see where they are going, then start a new one as a class. Every rung adds one kind of information.

  1. I like dogs.

Two traps from Chinese

兩個中文帶來的陷阱

Both of this week's conjunctions have a matching pair in Chinese that English does not use. Expect these errors — they are not carelessness, they are the first language showing through. Fix them together.
本週兩個連接詞在中文裡都是成對出現,英文卻只用一個。學生一定會犯——那不是粗心,是母語在說話。一起把它們改過來。

  1. 雖然下雨,但是我們還是出門了。 ✗ Although it rained, but we still went out. ✓ Although it rained, we still went out.
  2. 因為月亮很亮,所以我們在外面吃。 ✗ Because the moon was bright, so we ate outside. ✓ Because the moon was bright, we ate outside.

Prep · 備課 No preparation needed. Write 'I like dogs.' on the board and build from there. Note that this week's eight words are the lesson itself: three adjectives, three adverbs, two conjunctions — the exact materials a sentence grows with.
