Taipei-to-New-York Mission · the six problems

桃園飛紐約・六道關卡

Dom's mission needs problems to solve, so here are six. Hand one to each team in order; they must solve it out loud in English before receiving the next. The trip is the frame, the language is the point.
Dom 的任務需要關卡，這裡備了六道。依序發給各組，要用英語說出解法才能拿到下一道。旅程只是框架，語言才是重點。

① The check-in machine will not read your passport. What do you say to the staff?
② Your luggage is two kilograms overweight.
③ You cannot find gate C7. Ask someone — politely.
④ The flight is delayed by three hours. Ask what happens to your connection.
⑤ The person in seat 24B is sitting in your seat.
⑥ You arrive in New York but your luggage does not.

The trap · polite questions un-invert

陷阱・客氣的問句要把動詞放回去

Chinese asks 廁所在哪裡 the same way whether it is polite or not; the politeness is in tone and 請. English rebuilds the sentence instead — and the inside half goes back to statement order. Students who learn this one move sound instantly more fluent.
中文問「廁所在哪裡」，客氣與否只差語氣和一個「請」。英文是把句子重蓋——包在裡面的那半要變回直述句的順序。學生學會這一招，聽起來馬上成熟一截。

直接：Where is the gate?　→　客氣：Could you tell me where the gate is?
✗ Could you tell me where is the gate?　← 裡面那半不可以倒裝
直接：When does the plane leave?　→　Do you know when the plane leaves?
Your turn — make it polite: How much does the ticket cost?
Your turn — fix this: ✗ Do you know what time is it?

機場真的會遇到的字

Dom's Taiwan-to-anywhere journey. These are the words on the signs at Taoyuan, in the order you meet them. Walk the class through the airport once before the mission starts.
Dom 設計的旅程。這些是桃園機場招牌上真正會出現的字，照遇到的順序排。任務開始前先帶全班走一遍機場。

Check-in → Baggage Drop → Security → Immigration → Boarding Gate
Departures（出境）vs Arrivals（入境）· Transfer（轉機）
Now boarding（開始登機）· Final call（最後廣播）· Delayed（延誤）
Listen for: 'Passengers travelling to ______, please proceed to gate ______.'

出場券・一個客氣的問句

One embedded question, written correctly. If the inside half is inverted, it does not count.
寫一個包起來的問句，寫對才算。裡面那半倒裝了就不算。

Excuse me, could you tell me ______ ?

Prep · 備課 No preparation needed. One grammar point carries the whole week, and it is a politeness point too: an embedded question does not invert. 'Where is the gate?' becomes 'Could you tell me where the gate IS?' — the verb goes back to the end. Get that on the board early.
不必備課。整週靠一個文法點撐著，而它同時是禮貌問題：包在句子裡的問句不倒裝。Where is the gate? 變成 Could you tell me where the gate IS? ——動詞退回句尾。這件事早點寫上白板。
